Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage currently represents the western 'standard' for body massage. It is also known as "therapeutic massage" and represents a general massage system that focuses on increasing circulation and promoting relaxation.

The name "Swedish Massage" also refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applied pressure. These techniques include: long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration, effleurage, and shaking motions. Swedish Massage is suggested in a regular program for stress management.

The Benefits of Swedish Massage
· Shortens recovery time from muscular strain.
· Increases circulation - without increasing heart load.
· Stretches the ligaments and tendons.
· Stimulates the skin and soothes the nervous system.
· Reduces stress - both emotional and physical.

The History of Swedish Massage
Per Henrick Ling is widely known in the world of alternate therapies as the originator of Swedish Massage

Born in 1776, Per Henrick Ling became interested in gymnastics while traveling abroad. He was fascinated by the human body in movement, and began to make a detailed study of the limb movements of gymnasts.

In 1813, Ling developed "movement cure", and this was the name he gave to his particular system of massage designed to create movement within the muscles and joints of the body. It was only when his system began to be known in other countries that the term "Swedish Massage" was used to designate Ling's original method.
